Following a gastro-bar refurb not too long ago and judging from the clientele, the Dovedale's doing a lot of things right. The food looks reasonable, it's got a nice protected beer garden, which fills up when the weather's good, large wine list, quite a few continental and other foreign beers and what appears to be a giant backgammon league (the board's giant, not the league). It also does live music on a Sunday and kids can come in until early evenings. The main downside when we were in on a Saturday night was that the only bitter, Adnams, was off - and one of our friends said this happens a lot. Still, if you don't fancy the Latchmere and want something a bit quieter, try this one out.
