picture of Spread EagleThe Spread Eagle has had a tumultuous life in the last few years. Way back when, a former Watney's pub, it turned into a non-glossy strip joint for a few years before finally ending up as a very rough and ready Hoxton bar/club. Its was at this latter point we managed to review it. And then it closed. Not for the lack of custom a refurb nonetheless took place and it has now become a fairly interesting - but certainly not groundbreaking - bar. Gone is the dark, sleazy atmosphere, replaced instead with a dark, sophisticated one. It was almost inevitable, considering the area's move closer into the mainstream. Overall, the new look Spread Eagle is still an acceptable place for a drink, even if we do lament that its lost its edge.
