A rather inoffensive place, but one we just couldn't warm to. The bar maid was certainly friendly but the overall impression was over a rather bland pub-bar hybrid. For sure, the wine list looked impressive (as did the racks of bin ends at the back of the pub) and the gastro-ish menu could well hit the spot, but the lack of customers and rather subdued air of the place, just didn't induce us to try and sample either. We were intrigued though by the rack on the wall housing more magazines than your average tube station newsagent. We can see the point of magazines at a dentist's (something to keep the mind occupied before the impending drill) but in a pub? Effusing, then, the same, hushed, pub-as-waiting-room feel often evoked in a Wetherspoon, The Chepstow, though superficially a pleasant enough place, failed to win us over.
