Entering the Sultan is a bit like stepping back in time 30 years - the billowing cigarette smoke that greets you is very un-PC and the nicotine-yellow walls festooned with photos of regulars and newspaper clippings would give any Wetherspoon manager apoplexy. However, the slightly eccentric décor only adds to this pub's peculiar charm. While in most respects it is a fairly typical estate pub, the old-fashioned wooden bar boasts a small but well-kept range of beer and the atmosphere is not unfriendly. If you fancy a break from the anodyne, you could do a lot worse than come and have a pint here.
