picture of Fellow (exMasque Bar)Once the underwhelming Masque Bar, this one's now returned as The Fellow. With its bar and dining room on the ground floor and a cocktail lounge and roof terrace upstairs, it's very much in keeping with the continual upgrading of King's Cross and its environs - to be honest, we're surprised it's taken as it long as it has for a venue like this to open here. We stuck to the main bar on our visit, where eatery and drinkery pretty much occupy the same amount of floor space. The food is straight up gastro fare, so we expect to see this one making a splash as a destination for diners. Staying in the bar area, we settled in with a pint of Gales HSB and took stock of the place. It hits all the expected buttons - comfy furnishings, a bar well stocked with wines and spirits, on-message CDs - but we were left wondering how well this one will work at peak times (will drinkers left without a seat itch for a sit down in the dining space?). This future for this one bodes well - particularly now that King's Place has opened - so we'll keep an eye on it over the next few months. For the time being though - and until we see it on a busy night - we'll stick with our initial 2 pint rating. (New picture to come).
