Nestling behind Guys Hospital, the Miller of Mansfield is a welcome change from London's gastro makeover circuit, offering drinkers a great space to park themselves. There are no surprises on the beer front, but the Miller has an ample and affordable wine list, with cocktails offered should you need to let your hair down. The spacious ground floor offers a nice mix of bigger tables for groups, and smaller set-ups for a more intimate level of conversation. It attracts hospital staff, well-behaved King's students and workers from the local environs. Food is on offer and as the menus say 'basically we cook food we would like to eat.' Judging by the punters chowing down, they agree. It's reasonably priced, well presented and will fill you up without wishing you'd asked for a pack of McCoy's on the side. The excellent staff are another bonus, getting through the thirsty hordes and keeping everything else ticking over nicely. There's a good sized function room upstairs, available for hire, with regular music and comedy nights in place. And if you fancy your chances as the next Fast Eddie Felson, there's a rather good red pool table downstairs. Plenty of outdoor seating awaits you when the weather gets a bit warmer, too.
