A fine example of a between-the-wars pub, built when the London suburbs were rapidly expanding along routes into the centre of the Capital and designed to accommodate travellers en route from points east. It retains many 1930s features - woodwork, glazing, light fittings and fireplaces, but has been brought relatively up-to-date with an ample supply of entertainment technology - big screen TV, pool table, games machines (hey, Sega Bass fishing, no less). It's a decent enough pub, although there's nothing special on the beer front, but it serves the locals well and was a hive of activity when we were last in.
