Winchelsea is a lovely, historic, well-preserved little town, on top of a hill overlooking the sea not far from Rye. Unfortunately it's unfortunately only half the town it used to be and the church in the centre of the town appears to have been downsized to match. But for Fancyapinters, it's not all bad news, the pub in centre of the town is still going strong. It's a handsome, traditional pub, cheerfully serving well-kept Greene King ales, wines, spirits and food (especially Sunday roasts) to locals and visitors alike. And in these days of declining Post Offices, it seems the pub is also stepping in to provide local services offering an ATM and a machine you can email, surf and print your digital pictures from, in addition to the more usual pool tables, beer garden, newspapers and accommodation. It's a jolly decent place, in a jolly decent town. Well worth a visit if you're in these parts.
