This small pub, on the High Street, was built in the 1760s. As you would expect from the date and exterior it’s small and cosy inside, with low ceilings, horse brasses and other traditional pub paraphernalia lining the walls. There’s a restaurant room upstairs and a beer garden to the rear.
We got a friendly welcome from behind the bar on our visit. Just the one real ale was on offer but it was a decent pint of Shepherd Neame’s Master Brew.
The pub soon filled up with friendly locals. They included a middle-aged gentleman in full drag sporting a purple beehive wig. However, this wasn’t typical dress code for the pub and we hope to go back again to try the food, particularly the steak and kidney pudding.
