Lescar Hotel, Sheffield
FancyaPint?'s review...
A long-time favourite of arty types and the students who abound in the area, the Lescar has recently been taken over and spruced up somewhat. It's no longer the dingy haunt of shady characters it once was and is a lot more inviting as a result. It still does its bit for the arts, hosting live music and regular comedy nights, but, as well as the drink and entertainment, there's now more of a focus on food, with a consequent hike in prices. The move upmarket is perhaps inevitable, given the way the area's changing and for some this is a welcome move, for others it will bring a nostalgic tear to the eye.

This place had had a huge facelift in the past few years and is now a very good real ale pub. There's been at least one dark beer on tap when I have visited plus 4 or 5 others usually of the lighter persuation. The food is on the gastropub side and a little overpriced in my opinion but tasty nonetheless. The Lescar still attracts alot of students which is hardly surprising considering the location but whenever I have been in the crowd is always very mixed and pleasant.
