Ye Dolphin is probably only the second best of the three main pubs in this former coastal smuggling village, a close second behind the Laurel Inn. Nevertheless, it is worth dropping into, should you find yourself in this lovely corner of North Yorkshire. A certificate above the small bar proclaims that this was "Cleveland CAMRA Pub of the Season Spring 2005" (although technically we are not quite in Cleveland), and while no guest ales were available on our visit, the selection was decent enough - it's been a regular in the Good Beer Guide of late, though seems to have missed out in 2008. This is a real smugglers' pub - tatty, yet comfortable, settees, low ceilings, a fish-dominated menu (updated daily), a good selection of French and Italian wines - and decrepit toilets. The barman on our visit was a jovial, chubby, ponytailed chap who liked his heavy metal (though turned down to a reasonable level). Note that there is another pub called "Dolphin", currently closed, which is not to be confused with this one

How to find the Ye Dolphin pub

Robin Hood's Bay is located five miles (8km) south of Whitby and 15 miles (24km) north of Scarborough, on the B1447, off the A177, along the Heritage Coast in North Moors National Park, and is best reached by road. From either of the two main car parks at the top end of town, take King Street (a steep descent) down towards the bay. Ye Dolphin is on the right hand side after around 5 minutes' walk.
