Perched halfway up the hill to Highgate, the Whittington Cat, not to be confused with the nearby Whittington Stone, is a jolly, traditional Irish pub. Unlike many of the other Irish pubs in the area, it doesn't make a big deal of the old country, although there are a few extra Guinness pumps and a few knickknacks on display - it's a meeting place for local Irish working in London, but everyone, in true Irish hospitality, is welcome. The pub's an old Victorian building, retaining a lot of original features, but it's definitely seen better days - however that doesn't spoil anything here. You wouldn't come here for a real ale experience, but the service is polite and friendly and so, it appears, is everyone else in the pub.
