One of the earliest proponents of the Brick Lane scene, Vibe's commitment to creativity and experimentation in music, art and IT has always attracted the cream of Shoreditch's creative element. Sadly, as the area's reputation has spread, like anything that becomes too popular, it can lose its original attraction. These days, Londoners from far and wide are now drawn here; on Friday nights, for example, post-curry eaters, girls trying too hard and City folk vie uncomfortably for space with the more old-skool Shoreditch residents. It can, on occasion, create a rather fragmented and resentful atmosphere. Luckily, on our recent Wednesday evening visit, such problems were absent. Instead our problems came from the excellent tunes being played at ear-bleeding volume. Perhaps we're getting old, but for midweek in a place which isn't a bone fide club, we like a little conversation without having to shout about it. Still, there is a large outside area to enjoy, and live music upstairs, so if you catch Vibe in the right fame of mind and on the right night it's still pretty good.

From Aldgate East, exit onto Commercial Street, and take the forth turning on the right (Fournier Street) which leads you onto Brick Lane where you turn left. Vibe is a couple of minutes away on the right. From Liverpool Street exit onto Bishopsgate, cross and take Brushfield Street on the right. At the end carry on over to Fournier Street from where you can follow the instructions above.
