There aren't many pubs around where the bogs are cosier than the rest of the place, but this first floor bar has very nice ones. Located next to the derelict old EMD Cinema, this place functioned for a lot of years as the cinema bar. Now, it's populated by a good crowd of locals in the evenings in for a natter and maybe some sport on the telly. It's a freehouse with Irish pretensions, which means it serves an excellent pint of Guinness. When we say 'pretensions' we don't mean it's a faux-oirish place, but there are some oddities - we've never seen so many Scotch whiskies in an Irish bar before! Never mind, it's got good Guinness, friendly locals, responsive staff and karaoke on Fridays.

How to find the The Victoria pub

From Walthamstow Central: try to take the right-hand exit from the station and head up the ramp. Cross Selborne Road at the lights, past The Goose, turning left into Hoe Street and carry on up the road. The pub is about 2 minutes walk, next to a derelict cinema. You'll see the sign on the end of the building as you come up the road.
