Having reclaimed its name (it was until recently the Wicked Wolf), this pub hasn't followed the current trend for stripped-out style bars and appears to be intent on continuing life as a pub. Great - we're pleased about that, as there are quite enough of those other places around here. Don't get us wrong, it's contemporary, and there are the obligatory sofas scattered around, but it doesn't feel like anything other than a traditional pub. The food looks good, if a bit pricier than your average pub grub. We particularly like the fact that the fish finger sandwich comes with tartar sauce, rather than "lime mayo" which seems to be the favoured condiment for this delight. There's good beer on the taps - Flowers IPA and Bombardier when we were in last, two kinds of cider and a perry as well as a selection of lagers, so you'll be spoiled for a choice of pint. There's also a late licence and live entertainment most nights - some of the acts are excellent, add to that friendly service and a buzzing atmosphere and you've got a pretty good reason for visiting Smithfield (market and pub).

An excellent pub. A good range of ales and whiskies, lovely staff and an interesting menu. Also some unusually good music on Tuesday nights.

As the other reviews say, this pub has avoided the urge to modernise so has retained a nice traditional atmosphere and is roomy yet feels cosy with a very warm atmosphere. Food is great and drinks are reasonably priced. Definitely recommended! :)

I recently went there for a birthday party and we had such a great time. There is something timeless about this pub. We had dinner there and yes the food was excellent. Staff made sure that we were happy but without being too invasive. I certainly look forward to my next visit there. +++

You forgot to mention that this pub's food is truly excellent!!! They change their menu monthly now to keep it really seasonal and every time I eat here I am seriously impressed. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is amazing with rouched lamps and candelight. Get down there and try it out and write a proper food review!
