For a change, here's a Wetherspoon that's not a converted bank, cinema, or car showroom - nevertheless, it still fits the pattern: huge place, high footfall, big turnover. It's a cavern of a Victorian Gin palace, retaining many of it's external original features and to a lesser extent internal features. The conversion has entailed installation of standard Wetherspoon ersatz Arts and Crafts booths in the back, which jar rather than blend. Modern would have been better. It all adds up to a familiar Wetherspoon experience - plenty of offers, plenty of food and a pretty extensive range of well-kept real ales at down-to-earth prices. We ought to like it more, but it's all too soulless.
