The Dispensary is a grand Victorian (1858) building brought bang up-to-date with a sympathetic renovation, fashionable decoration and a modern twist on the British pub. There's an excellent selection of ales on offer - a regular rotation of interesting bitters such as Weltons, Harvey's, Brodies and Nethergate on our last visit (and a list upcoming beers if you're planning to return). The wine list is equally impressive, both in form and content - it's a bound book, with a wide selection of old and new world produce. And if this interesting and upmarket fare is not to your liking, there's plenty of lagers etc, cocktail, spirits and a couple of interesting ciders with which to wet your whistle. We've yet to try the food, but there's plenty of choice with a traditional pub menu downstairs and a la carte eating upstairs and, if the quality of food is as good as the drink, we're in for a treat when we do. There was a lively buzz in the place the evening we were in, a welcome improvement in atmosphere over previous visits. It seems word has got round about the Dispensary and what it offers. Now that Tower Hamlets has restored a sensible road layout to the area, this part of Aldgate is not as cut off as it used to be, so now you've no excuse for not paying a visit here. If you like good drink and good food, we think you'll like it.

just a small point but the map for the Dispensary describes the pub as the OLD Dispensary, to avoid any confusion, you might want to change this. Cheers.

I am a very regular visitor to The Dispensary as it stands head and shoulders above anywhere else in the area. From the friendly welcome by Annie and the front of house crew to the fantastic food from David and the kitchen team. Try the pub menu downstairs for a really good everyday lunch, always with great fresh ingredients, but for a real treat go onto the mezzanine restaurant level to sample really great food at very reasonable prices given the location. A good place to take a client for lunch if you want a non stuffy, buzzing experience in a really quite quirky old building.
