The Grade II listed interior of this former cinema is pretty spectacular and provoked a 'wow' when we went in last. When it opened in 1929, it was with the marvellously moral sounding tale "Man, Woman and Sin". It's been a Wetherspoon pub since 2001, and it's certainly a grand setting, but just like another JDW cinema conversion, there's a rather mundane pub experience to be had despite the glorious architecture. No matter when one goes into this one, the immense scale of the interior dissipated a lot of the atmosphere, although all the usual suspect that frequent Wetherspoon pubs were in during the day when we were in last. The usual JDW cheap prices are in operation, but there's one other odd local touch: a painted triptych of David Bowie beside the nearby Horniman Museum.

Exit Forest Hill station through the station exit. Turn left, then cross over the main road at the traffic lights and carry straight on up London Road. You'll soon see the pub on your left.
