Temperance seems an unlikely name for a pub, considering the Temperance Society is opposed to all forms of alcohol, but here it is. Its actually named after a Temperance Billiard Hall that once resided here but we doubt many will be taking the pledge, due to the excellent choice of alcohol available, including a non-standard selection of Belgium and German Beers. On our last visit Pride and Bombardier were on and decently kept (and priced!). Once a grotty O'Neill's, this large, impressive space - which still retains some of its art nouveau glasswork - has finally been given the treatment it deserves. One side is a restaurant section, while the relaxed drinking section is around the central bar and upstairs in the rafters. The decor is dark, moody and sophisticated - not unique but done pretty well here. We've tried the menu and it's OK, just your regular pub grub and well under the £10 marker. It was also clear that the staff were on their best behaviour - friendly and professional to a fault. It's definitely matured since we were last in and it's nice to see things haven't really changed - it's still a good addition to the area.
