Ship & Whale, Rotherhithe
FancyaPint?'s review...
As the name suggests, once upon a time this part of London had strong ties to the whaling industry. Captain Ahabs are thin on the ground around Greenland Dock these days, and it's doubtful a trusty harpoon skewered the fish that featured on this one's menu. And that food choice gives a indication of what the pub is like: a (very) tidied up affair which attracts the nearby flat-dwelling twenty and thirty-somethings. Thankfully, it's not a gastropub: this is a pub first and foremost, and one which does feel of a certain age. Certainly one to pick off should you be attempting this stretch of the Thames Path, the Ship & Whale is also one of the better Shepherd Neame pubs we've come across of late: good beer, efficient staff.

horrible experience there....expensive drinks, bad food and the owner and his manager where just too drunk to focus and made us feel like we were intruding..they made it like a youth centre..will never go back.....I work to hard to give my money away like that....horrible!!!the owner also allowed his rather vicious unfreindly dog roam....it also strikes me as weird that the dogs name is dexter..the same name as the glittering revue given below this one, about the pub....hmmmm!!! steer well clear if you ask me!

really nice local pub, tucked round the back of greenland dock. food is really good here and the staff always seem very friendly and welcoming. definately worth a visit (tuesday night is 2 homemade gourmet beef burgers for the price of one, a right bargain because their burgers are amazing). Worth checking out, miles better than any of the other local pubs
