Royal Oak, Woolwich
FancyaPint?'s review...
Despite having half a handsome old Truman's tiled exterior (courtesy of the Luftwaffe), the Royal Oak is a rather sparse affair. The walls are bare and net curtains prevent anyone seeing in or out of the pub. A lighter note, though, is provided by coloured twinkling lights over the bar. Young's bitter is the only draught ale here but even that was unavailable on our visit, and rolls are available here if you're peckish. The locals talked it up whilst Motown ruled the jukebox, and the music seemed to brighten the mood. Given the pub's unpromising location (housing and industrial estates, run-down shops), this place does a job and it is probably your best bet in North Woolwich.
