The BFI, formerly the National Film Theatre, is a long established part of the Southbank's cultural milieu, but until recently its bar was lacking any creative touch. A refit has made for a more clearly defined space, splitting the restaurant from the bar and bringing a much needed sense of space and a degree of warmth. With interesting drink options including Duvel Green on draught (check your budget before ordering a pint) and two ales from Sharp's, Cornish Coaster and a seasonal offering on our visit of 6 Hop IPA, there is plenty to tempt the passer-by, or those wishing to unwind after a Hitchcock thriller. A slight grumble would be the design of about half the tables, which don't seem to take into account the fact that most people have knees.
