If you've ever been for a stroll up the Lee Valley, along the Hertford Union Canal, chances are you'll have come across this place and that's probably the best way to visit this place. Sited where the canal goes under Lea Bridge road, this welcoming place is an oasis in a wilderness of industrialisation and council properties. The beers are up to Young's usual, good standards and there's a British pub grub menu if you're feeling hungry after the walk to get here. The service is good, it has a cosy panelled interior in parts of it and, not surprisingly, at weekends it's popular with locals - especially in summer sitting by the canal. A good effort all round we say.

not intended for public viewing, just a correction,

the pub is actually on the Lea River, where the river splits into the continuation of the river and the Lea Navigation Canal, the Hertford Union Canal runs into the Thames at Limehouse, which is also where the River Lea runs into the Thames so if people go along the HU Canal looking for the pub they'll never find it :-)

there is actually a short length of canal from the HU into the River Lea, at Old Ford, but I don't know if it has a name

the pub also now has a large screen, and hosts guest beers as well

the current landlord is an Australian by the name of Tony and is a very affable chap

no I don't work there I drink there :-)

Cheers mate, mine's a pint
