With so many new identikit gastro pubs springing up in the Kings Cross regenerated area, it is nice to find an unique older pub. However, with the Lincoln Lounge there is always the sense that it has chosen style over substance. Tatty leather sofas look good, but it is hard to relax on them and conduct a decent conversation. A small pub can be characterful and friendly, but needs to be well laid out. Hand pull ales can be tasty, if they are regularly changed and well kept. This is a good bar, with regular DJ slots and live music (and sometimes a ukelele band), eclectic decor, and very shiny lager taps (plus Bombardier and Greene King IPA on hand pull). Perfectly decent but not quite making it to the special category.
