King's Head, Crouch End
FancyaPint?'s review...
Another refurb and one that abides by every rule in the book, from Seventies retro lighting to corn-fed chicken on the menu. Considering where it lives though, the tarted up King's Head isn't too bad. Smack bang in the middle of the 3-wheeled pram hell commonly known as Crouch End, it hasn't made too many concessions to the over-accessorised incomers. Serving the usual upmarket mix of lagers and beers, it also does a fine range of wines, and remains a pleasant enough spot to pass an afternoon in. Weekend evenings can find it a little cheek by jowl, as it becomes filled with the younger N8 residents. The menu is packed with the wannabe gastropub bingo choices, but it also contains enough some sturdy choices to see you through. There's also a basement which is host to some excellent bands and a long-established comedy club, if that sort of thing tickles yer fancy.
