Many of the pubs between Warren Street and Goodge Street are moderate drinking holes, but this one sticks out. It's a bit off the main drag, but it's one of the most popular pubs in the area. It attracts a fair mix of punters, the beers - especially Adnam's and the excellent St. Austell Tribute - are well kept and a jovial atmosphere pervades. The bar staff are prompt and friendly and aren't overawed by big crowds at the bar. It's perhaps one worth sampling on a quieter night - a winter's evening drinking next to the fire is something we regularly look forward to. Shame the old brass till has been retired after decades of decent service, but otherwise still a cracking, old-fashioned boozer.

Visited on Thursday after work. Not too busy, had Tribute, Doom Bar and a guest beer (Dartmoor, I think) on. Had the Doom Bar and guest, really well-kept. Really good atmosphere and the staff were great (got a free pint, barman gave me an extra Doom bar by mistake!) The only issue I have is the arrangement of tables and chairs in front of the bar. This sometimes makes it difficult to get to the bar - minor detail really. On the whole a really good pub - will return.
