Juno, Shoreditch
FancyaPint?'s review...
Not one the most well-known venues in the area and with more Chesterfield settees than DFS, Juno initially seems to be making a play for the more relaxed end of E1's clientele. But something doesn't quite feel right here - the conversion from the shop it once was wasn't comprehensive enough and the ambience sometimes suffers accordingly. The basement could have more character, but the lighting and layout don't work very well. Overall, its a bit trendy-by-numbers; apparently all it takes to call yourself "retro" is some reclaimed furniture and a couple of ancient arcade games, which, 20 years on, aren't as entertaining as remembered though the haze of early 80's nostalgia. Still the food is reasonably priced and there are enough drinks to keep most people (except ale drinkers) happy. In Roman mythology Juno may have been queen of the Gods, but in Shoreditch it usually plays a more minor role.
