The Hobgoblin does things on a big scale. There's a sizeable beer garden at the back for summer weather and smokers, which draws locals and students for sunshine and jugs of lager. There's an extensive range of real ales on the hand pumps and it's not just Wychwood's own (although the Hobgoblin is jolly good), with Landlord, Young's and other guests also available. In addition there's Thai food on the menu - with every main dish costing the princely sum of £5 - Monday to Thursday, poker nights on Tuesday and BBQs in summer. The service is usually good and there's a 20 percent student discount on offer. In a pretty mixed area for drinking, this place seems to keep everyone happy.
