The George IV is an attractive proper Victorian pub, just where you wouldn't expect one. Tucked off Kentish Town High Road on the edge of an industrial estate, the exterior is an ivy covered wonder, complete with charming globe lamps inscribed with 'GR IV'. Inside is equally good, with pictures covering every inch of the wall space and perfect lighting, which included a lamp for every table. Nothing of note on the beer taps, sadly, and the ultra-cheap food is mainly of the sandwich variety, but there was clearly a loyal following of regulars in this community-led pub. Football is popular here, too, so if you're not a fan you might want to give it a miss on important match days. Now an increasingly rare example of the type of pub which once stood on every corner, if they could find themselves some real ale and give the gents get a sprucing up, we'd come back more often. Either way the George IV proves that not every local's pub is tired or unwelcoming.

From Kentish Town tube, turn right and cross over the road. When you reach the McDonald's, turn right onto Holmes Road and follow it round until you see the pub on the left.
