George & Devonshire, Chiswick
FancyaPint?'s review...
Being a barrel roll away from the Fuller's brewery on the edge of the Thames, the George & Devonshire could well be considered to be their flagship pub. This pub's been sitting at the edge of Chiswick Square in Old Chiswick since 1680 and but the view out front is now of the very busy Hogarth Roundabout on the A4. Still, the inside has seen a considered refurbishment and is a very pleasant place in which to spend some time. There are still vaguely separated public and saloon bars, with the former containing the more boozer-like fruit machines, pool table and sports screen. Elsewhere, you'll find a selection of comfortable furniture, newspapers and board games, as well as a small back garden and a rather impressive function room. The beers were as well kept as you'd hope and a pub grub menu indicated they avoided taking the gastro route. Overall this is a strong three pint rated pub, which might've been even higher if service had been a little more enthusiastic.
