Dartmouth Castle, Hammersmith
FancyaPint?'s review...
Glenthorne Road runs parallel to King Street in Hammersmith, but whereas King Street offers a drinking experience akin to that of an average UK High Street, the quieter back street of Glenthorne Road offers more refined imbibing options. Stonemason's Arms has been offering up gastro fare for a few years now, and has now been joined by a (slightly) more recent arrival, in the shape of the Dartmouth Castle. Although a food orientated pub, you won't be out of place if you've just come to the Dartmouth for a couple of drinks. It's from the same stable as The Atlas and The Cumberland Arms, pubs that show you can balance grub with glug and keep everyone happy. Entertainment at The Dartmouth comes mostly in the form of a big pile of board games, though a couple of TVs were due to be called into action for the Six Nations rugby. There's a fairly large upstairs bar available for hire, whilst the downstairs space was looking pretty busy on our weekend visit. Whilst we'd be very surprised if the thirsty folk who cram the pubs of King Street, suddenly made their way up to the Dartmouth Castle for a Big Night Out, don't be too surprised to find a few folk starting their evenings here. As pubs in Hammersmith go, this is certainly one of the better ones.
