Bricklayer's Arms, Bromley
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Bricklayer's Arms is one of the better pubs in central Bromley, a short (uphill) walk from the main station - though beware the old-fashioned opening hours! It looks splendid from the outside, and the interior ain't too bad either. Whilst not charming or intimate in the truest sense, it's comfortable with plush settees and ample seating, divided into two distinct halves (formerly, separate saloon and public bars) with interesting black-and-white photographs on display, and is the kind of place where one could take elderly relatives or in-laws. The clientele is notably mixed but fairly well-behaved. Well-kept Master Brew, Spitfire and Early Bird are on offer, as well as Hürlimanns and Holsten. However, the most noteworthy feature is the beer patio. This is an enclosed, two-level tiled area, heated in winter and immaculately maintained with hanging baskets and bushes. It's rightly popular with smokers and non-smokers alike (it even has a TV), and is the kind of feature we would all love in our local. And, last but not least, the "Bitter End" real ale off-licence next door (pictured) has existed for years and must surely be one of very few of its type to have made it into the "Good Beer Guide".
