The Blue Anchor - which has been licensed since 1722 - is the first in a succession of Thames-side pubs which stretch from Hammersmith to Chiswick and is arguably one of the better ones, and it's still primarily a pub. With an exterior bedecked in an appropriately nautical blue and white, the interior seems to have been left with plenty of original features, including some lovely wooden panelling. If you're lucky you might be able to bag the limited number of outside seats on the upstairs terrace in the restaurant area, which might prove a handy vantage point once the locals and afterwork crowds descend to pack it out on sunnier days. Be prepared for your pints to be closer to £$ than £3 though.

Have been drinking here since the refurb and it gets better all the time. The pub has now bedded down nicely and service and quality of the ales is outstanding. They do not pretend to be a gastro pub a big plus! The food hoever is very good and obviously freshly prepaired. Highly recomended

A friend and I did a short pub walk along the river near Hammersmith. 5 pretty good pubs. The Blue Anchor is a very attractive establishment, inside and out, but we thought it was a little expensive. £6 for a sandwich? £7.70 for a Leffe and a pretty ordinary pint of bitter? Incidentally, why don't all pubs stock a couple of national lagers - some people still haven't joined the beer revolution.

Went to a show at the Appolo so popped in for a pint and a meal. What a discovery. Great atmosphere, 5 ales on tap, good range of wine. Had some food also very good. Good wholesome pub grub, obviously freshly prepared. Dropped by after the show for a nitecap Staff were welcomming and effecent. Pitty I dont live near by. This would be my local!

Went here after having an enjoyable time here previously and was quite disappointed. Staff didnt seem to know what they were doing (they even forgot to ring the bell for last drinks - i wasnt the only one that was annoyed) and the potato in my tapas was still frozen.... be careful :)

Recently re-opened after lengthy re-furbishment. Done as sympathetically as rules for a listed building allow. Upstairs room, with wonderful river views, now open (and can be hired for private functions). Unpretentious menu. Superb for lunch Mondays thru Friday when it is not too crowded.
