Located just outside the centre of the city, this four-roomed former coaching inn has consistently been one of Hereford's best pubs for a number of years. The Barrels manages to attract a wide variety of punters, ranging from the student crowd (often competing for the pool table) through to regulars who've been frequenting pubs since before Ronnie Radford scored the greatest-ever F.A. Cup goal in 1972. Formerly home to the Wye Valley Brewery, it remains affiliated and continues to stock a range of its ales since production was switched from an old stable block at the back to larger premises. The annual beer festival provides an opportunity to experience other brews, with a large courtyard out the back the ideal venue if the sun decides to shine. There is certainly nothing fancy here, but even if ales aren't your thing its worth checking out.
