This pub is best known as the "Aidensfield Arms" in ITVs long-running police series "Heartbeat", set in the North Yorkshire Moors village of Aidensfield, a fictionalised version of Goathland (note the second, smaller pub sign on the side wall). Earlier episodes featured the actual interior of the pub, though they have now built a version on set. The Goathland Hotel genuinely has the feel of an old-style Yorkshire pub, and to this day walkers kick their boots off and sup a pint of Flowers IPA or Camerons Strongarm after a hike on the Moors. In reality, however, the interior is relatively new, though in a retro style. There's a lounge area to the rear, and a kind of no-man's-land in between, where regulars sit. Two family rooms indicate that children are welcomed. There's also a very open beer garden enjoying a splendid view over the Moors. Sadly, near-Arctic conditions on our visit precluded an al fresco pint.

How to find the Goathland Hotel pub

Near Whitby (9 miles away) in North Yorkshire, the Goathland Hotel can be reached by car from the Whitby to Pickering road (A169). Alternatively, catch the nostalgic North Yorkshire Moors steam railway from Pickering, Whitby or Grosmont, and it's just up the hill from the station.
