If you're a climber or hillwalker, especially one who's visited Glencoe, chances are you'll know this pub, but you don't have to be keen on outdoor pursuits to enjoy the Clachaig Inn. The two bars and a lounge offer an impressive range of Cask Marque real ales on the hand pumps, there are regular guest beers and a solid range of whiskies to back them up, along with a regular line-up of beers, lagers wines and spirits. The food is OK, a regional mix of dishes, using locally-sourced ingredients, which makes up in heartiness what it loses in sophistication. It's a pretty friendly place too and, even though the walls are plastered with climbing photos and memorabilia, it's not just a place to reminisce about 7,000m peaks. There's accommodation, regular live music, WiFi (essential when you can't get a mobile signal), real fires and a play area that most grown-ups would be tempted by. The Clachaig Inn pulls off a difficult thing very well, providing a pub that caters particularly for a specialist market, but one the rest of us regular pub fans can equally enjoy. Well done.
