Viewed from the bridge, The Swan and Three Cygnets is a deceptive pub - like a swan, there's a lot going on down below. It looks every bit like standard-sized, central-barred pub, but this visible segment sits atop a much larger bar that opens out onto the river, offering plenty of tables and benches on the waterside for smokers and hardy drinkers. It's a Sam Smith's pub, so expect the usual brews, absent music and the cheap prices, which in a university town, naturally makes this place very popular with students. The decor is rather modern, especially for those of us used to the Sam Smith's Victoriana you see in their pubs in the West End of London - which comes as a bit of a surprise, but still, it works well here - and with that you get the full picture. The Swan and Three Cygnets is popular place, in a prime location and with the capacity, generally to take it all in.
