George Inn, Doddington
FancyaPint?'s review...
The George Inn is squat-looking pub, comprising of two separate bars in the village of Doddington. The lounge bar is focussed on food and our visit found a fair few local old folk tucking in to some reasonably priced food. However, we spent our time in the bar proper, enjoying the 50p pool table and a good drop of Elgoods Ale. There was a scattering of older locals on our Tuesday night visit, with a couple of them in full loud singing drunken mode as they left. They seemed harmless enough though and the atmosphere didn't make us feel like interlopers. Decor wise, the lounge was rather attractive, while the main bar was rather more worn and basic. A small, smartened up back yard was also available to cater for the smokers. This also appears to be a pub which offers plenty of local participation, including a darts team, all of which was bizarrely being flashed up on a plasma screen, along with adverts for local services. Ultimately the George suits the locals just fine, but this probably isn't a pub to make a detour for.
