What defines a great pub? It's a delicate blend of great service, quality beers and comfortable surroundings. Well, this might be leaning more towards a bar than a traditional pub, but it scores highly on all counts. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, the selection of beers is wide and unusual, and the room might be small but the building has been sympathetically renovated, the room is well laid out and the music just loud enough. On a Thursday evening it was busy but not rammed (unlike the opening night!)
Brew Dog is a Scottish craft brewery that specialises in American style keg beer rather than traditional cask-based beers. This means it competes directly with the lagers, although in most respects the recipes are more similar to real ales. Whether CamRA approves is undecided, and certainly the cost of the beers is well above the average, but this place is well worth a visit.
